Kinesiology Taping - KT Tape

Kinesiology Tape Application

Kinesiology tape (often called KT tape) is a thin, elastic therapeutic tape used to support muscles and joints without restricting normal movement. It’s commonly used in sports medicine and physical therapy.

What makes it different?

  • Elastic – Can stretch up to ~140–180% of its original length, similar to human skin

  • Breathable & lightweight – Designed to be worn for several days

  • Heat-activated and water-resistant

Unlike rigid athletic tape, kinesiology tape allows full range of motion while still providing support.

How It Works

When applied correctly, kinesiology tape:

  • Gently lifts the skin

  • May improve local circulation and lymphatic flow

  • Provides sensory input to the nervous system

  • Enhances body awareness (proprioception)

This sensory feedback can help:

  • Reduce pain

  • Improve muscle activation

  • Decrease swelling

  • Support joint mechanics

Common Uses

  • Muscle strains (hamstring, quad, calf)

  • Shoulder support for overhead athletes

  • Patellar tracking issues

  • Ankle sprains

  • Postural cueing

  • Swelling management
