Kinesiology Taping - KT Tape
Kinesiology tape (often called KT tape) is a thin, elastic therapeutic tape used to support muscles and joints without restricting normal movement. It’s commonly used in sports medicine and physical therapy.
What makes it different?
-
Elastic – Can stretch up to ~140–180% of its original length, similar to human skin
-
Breathable & lightweight – Designed to be worn for several days
-
Heat-activated and water-resistant
Unlike rigid athletic tape, kinesiology tape allows full range of motion while still providing support.
How It Works
When applied correctly, kinesiology tape:
-
Gently lifts the skin
-
May improve local circulation and lymphatic flow
-
Provides sensory input to the nervous system
-
Enhances body awareness (proprioception)
This sensory feedback can help:
-
Reduce pain
-
Improve muscle activation
-
Decrease swelling
-
Support joint mechanics
Common Uses
-
Muscle strains (hamstring, quad, calf)
-
Shoulder support for overhead athletes
-
Patellar tracking issues
-
Ankle sprains
-
Postural cueing
-
Swelling management
